The Sasang Constitutional Types Can Act as a Risk Factor for Hypertension

It has been suggested that an approach to hypertension based on the constitutional make-up of an individual may be effective. We conducted a retrospective chart review to explore the association of Sasang constitution with hypertension.

Low cardio/respiratory fitness as an independent predictor of metabolic syndrome in Korean young men

Little information is available regarding the relationship between cardio/respiratory fitness (CRF) and metabolic risk factors in South Korea. The purpose of this study was to compare metabolic risk factors and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) across CRF levels in young Korean men.

The differential effect of cigarette smoking on glomerular filtration rate and proteinuria in an apparently healthy population

he detrimental effects of cigarette smoking on the kidney in healthy individuals without established renal diseases have not been established. We evaluated the effects of smoking on renal function and proteinuria in 35 288 apparently healthy participants who were not on antihypertensive and/or antidiabetic medication and who had undergone a health examination at the Health Promotion Center, Seoul National University Hospital from 1995 to 2006.

Physical activity and metabolic syndrome in Korean children

Little is known about whether lifestyle factors such as dietary intake, physical activity (PA), and cardio/respiratory fitness (CRF) are associated with metabolic risk factors in Korean children. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships among those lifestyle-related modifiable factors and the clustering of metabolic risk factors in young Korean children.

PC-1 Genotype and IRS Response to Exercise Training

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the efficacy of exercise training as a means of insulin resistance syndrome (IRS) treatment is dependent on the PC-1 gene K121Q variants.

Acute effect of intermittent and continuous aerobic exercise on release of cardiac troponin T in sedentary men

Studies have shown that acute exercise can increase serum concentrations of cardiac biomarkers, including cardiac troponin T (cTnT). We investigated the acute effects of intermittent (IE) and continuous (CE) exercise at the same cardiac workload on myocardial necrosis biomarkers in sedentary men.

The effects of swimming training on arterial function, muscular strength, and cardiorespiratory capacity in postmenopausal women with stage 2 hypertension

Aging is associated with progressive decreases in arterial health as well as muscular strength and cardiorespiratory capacity. It is crucial to prevent or reduce the negative effects of aging on vasculature, muscular, and cardiorespiratory function by implementing appropriate lifestyle interventions, such as exercise training. We examined the effects of a swimming (SWM) regimen on arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity [PWV]), blood pressure (BP), wave reflection (augmentation index [AIx]), muscle strength, and aerobic capacity in sedentary, postmenopausal women with stage 2 hypertension.
