Body Composition Analyzer Technology

ACCUNIQ Impedance
Measurement Method Using
BIA Principle

Body composition refers to components that make up the human body such as water content, protein, minerals, and body fat.
The sum of your body composition is your weight, and you can maintain a stable health condition when each body component maintains a certain ratio.

division method

Body composition is largely divided into fat and
non-fat (lean mass) 'two-division method', fat, water,
and fat-free mass (protein and mineral) 'three-division method',
and fat, water, protein, and mineral 'four-division method'.
The more compartments there are,
the less error in body composition measurements.

ACCUNIQ's proprietary algorithm

ACCUNIQ's body composition analyzer accurately measures bioimpedance
with Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology based on the four-division method, which is a molecular concept,
and then substitutes it into ACCUNIQ's scientifically verified algorithm to calculate major body composition results.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis
Definition and principles of bioelectrical impedance analysis

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), is a method of measuring the ratio of body composition based on the difference in electrical resistance between fat tissue and lean tissue.
When a microcurrent of a frequency that is safe for the human body is applied to the human body through the electrode on the handle, current passes easily through muscles with high water content, but current does not pass well due to high electrical resistance in a fat tissue.

ACCUNIQ accurately measures minute changes, such as small changes in the human body
and environmental differences, based on its own advanced algorithm researched
and developed by our research team.”

To develop and apply a new architecture for body composition analysis, we’ve conducted clinical test and analysis to establish a 4-compartment (4C) model through
the combination of measurement data of DXA, D2O, underwater body density method, and physical measurement (weight, length, width, and volume).
Based on this, we developed our own ACCUNIQ algorithm that measures body water, protein, minerals,
and body fat through measurement comparison analysis and verification with BIA.

Physical Measurement

BIA is non-invasive, harmless to the human body. The test can be completed in a short time and the measurement method is simple.
In addition, it has the advantage of being accessible and measurable at a low price.
Also, it is characterized by sensitive measurement without missing minute factors such as small changes in the human body and differences in the environment.
Therefore, in order to obtain reproducible and accurate results, you must observe the correct measurement posture and precautions (Accuniq user manual).

The data extracted from ACCUNIQ impedance body fat measurement has a wide range of applications.
In addition to simple body composition results, it provides various information such as sarcopenia, cell health, obesity evaluation, control guide, and body type determination.
Accordingly, for the purpose of disease prevention, it is possible to determine whether or not to perform a detailed examination.
And, after identifying exercise, diet, and lifestyle habits, it provides calorie control guides on behalf of health care professionals and sports managers.

Obesity, Abdominal obesity
Obesity, abdominal obesity evaluation

Obesity not only adversely affects metabolism, but also increases the risk of developing adult diseases such as coronary artery disease,
high blood pressure, and diabetes. In particular, abdominal obesity, along with hypertriglyceridemia, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high blood pressure,
and hyperglycemia, is one of the main criteria for determining metabolic syndrome and needs to be managed.
ACCUNIQ body composition analyzer increases the utilization of obesity management through quantitative analysis of fat and skeletal muscle in terms of body weight
by measuring weight, skeletal muscle, and body fat, and individualized standard ranges. You can conduct management through abdominal obesity information
(cross-sectional area of visceral fat, amount of visceral fat, abdominal circumference, etc.) derived through the ACCUNIQ algorithm.
In addition, it provides detailed analysis information on muscle and fat through analysis of the five body parts.

Evaluation of sarcopenia

Sarcopenia means loss of muscle mass and muscle strength due to old age,
various diseases, and decreased physical activities.
As sarcopenia has emerged as an international issue due to super-aging,
the World Health Organization (WHO) included sarcopenia in its disease
classification code in early 2017.

There are EWGSOP (Europe), AWGS (Asia), and other standards for diagnosis and criteria for sarcopenia, but referring to the newly enacted AWGS diagnostic criteria in 2020,
the diagnosis and criteria for sarcopenia are based on three indicators: grip, walking speed, and skeletal muscle mass.
Also, for diagnosis of skeletal muscle mass, measurement using the BIA method was accepted in addition to the existing DXA method.
Domestically, there is a new technology medical evaluation that body composition analysis using multi-frequency impedance analysis by body part is a safe
and effective technique for confirming diagnosis and treatment results for patients suspected of sarcopenia and patients diagnosed with sarcopenia. In this regard,
the sarcopenia evaluation criteria presented by AWGS are as follows:

AWGS(Asian Workin Group for Sarcopenia(2020)) * SPPB(short Physical performance battery)

Male < 7.0kg/㎡(BIA) < 28 kg Walking speed < 1.0 m/s

체수분
Body water evaluation

About 50-60% of the human body is made up of water. It is again divided into intracellular water (about 2/3) and extracellular water (about 1/3).
It is important to evaluate body water through the degree of water balance.
ACCUNIQ body composition analyzer provides body water, intracellular water, extracellular water, and extracellular water ratio (extracellular water/body water) values for each body part to evaluate body water balance.
Nutritional status of the body, kidney and vascular dysfunction, inflammation, etc. can affect the extracellular water ratio, and if the valuel is higher than the standard, edema can be suspected.

Provide phase angle figures

The phase angle is an index related to the health and nutritional status of the cell membrane.
The phase angle increases if the cell is structurally and functionally healthy, and decreases if it is not.
Through the numerical value of the phase angle, you can understand the overall cell, nutrition, and health status of the body, and further,
use it as a prognostic indicator for metabolic diseases including cancer and various serious diseases.
As the ACCUNIQ body composition analyzer provides phase angle data for each part as well as whole body phase angle,
it is possible to evaluate the health status of each part of the cell.

Phase angle 6.4º

Freq LA RA TR LL RL
50K 6.4 6.5 7.0 6.7 6.5

※ 50kHz is the optimal frequency to check the characteristics
of reactance and is used to derive the phase angle.

정밀검사

The phase angle means the phase difference caused by the time difference between the voltage and current waveforms,
and the phase angle in BCA is the sum of resistance (R) and reactance (Xc) resistance vector.
The ACCUNIQ BC720 calculates the phase angle for the electronically generated phase difference in alternating current.
In case of healthy cells, the reactance is high, so the phase angle is measured high, and in case of damaged cells, the phase angle is measured low.
