Metabolic alterations in Mexican young adults: sensitivity and specificity approaches between anthropometric parameters and biochemical markers

Our goa lwas to determine the relationship between anthropometric or body composition parameters with biochemical markers for with non-communicable diseases (NCD), including sensitivity and specificity of anthropometric markers in apparently healthy young adults.

Regular nutrition consultations reduced risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in adults

This study investigated the effects of regular nutrition consultations on reducing risk factors, including body mass index, body composition, blood pressure, blood lipid profile, blood glucose–related markers, and inflammatory factors for cardiovascular diseases.

Acute effect of intermittent and continuous aerobic exercise on release of cardiac troponin T in sedentary men

Studies have shown that acute exercise can increase serum concentrations of cardiac biomarkers, including cardiac troponin T (cTnT). We investigated the acute effects of intermittent (IE) and continuous (CE) exercise at the same cardiac workload on myocardial necrosis biomarkers in sedentary men.

The effects of swimming training on arterial function, muscular strength, and cardiorespiratory capacity in postmenopausal women with stage 2 hypertension

Aging is associated with progressive decreases in arterial health as well as muscular strength and cardiorespiratory capacity. It is crucial to prevent or reduce the negative effects of aging on vasculature, muscular, and cardiorespiratory function by implementing appropriate lifestyle interventions, such as exercise training. We examined the effects of a swimming (SWM) regimen on arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity [PWV]), blood pressure (BP), wave reflection (augmentation index [AIx]), muscle strength, and aerobic capacity in sedentary, postmenopausal women with stage 2 hypertension.

Changes in the Adipose Tissue Expression of CD86 Costimulatory Ligand and CD163 Scavenger Receptor in Obesity and Type-2 Diabetes: Implication for Metabolic Disease

The CD86 costimulatory ligand and CD163 scavenger receptor are expressed on monocytes/macrophages. However, modulations in the expression of these immune regulatory receptors in metabolic disease remain unclear. We, therefore, compared the adipose tissue expression of CD86/CD163 and signature inflammatorycytokines/chemokines in non-diabetic and diabetic individuals.

Long-term vegetarians have low oxidative stress, body fat, and cholesterol levels

Excessive oxidative stress and abnormal blood lipids may cause chronic diseases. This risk can be reduced by consuming an antioxidant- and fiber-rich vegetarian diet. We compared biomarkers of oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity, and lipid profiles of sex- and age-matched long-term vegetarians and omnivores in Korea.

Relationship of IL-5 with Th1 and Th2 Cytokines in Individuals with or without Type-2 Diabetes

Changes in plasma levels of T-cell cytokines may result in inflammatory disorders, including metabolic disease. The changes in circulatory IL-5 levels in obesity and type-2 diabetes (T2D) and their relationship with major Th1 and Th2 cytokines are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to determine obesity/T2D-associated perturbation in plasma IL-5 levels and investigate its association with Th1/Th2 cytokine levels in the circulation.

Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Epicardial Adipose Tissue Measured by Chest Computed Tomography in Healthy Adults

Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) may produce several cytokines contributed to coronary atherosclerosis. EAT was measured by transthoracic echocardiography or 3 dimensional cardiac computed tomography (CT) on previous studies. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between EAT thickness and cardiovascular risk factors in healthy adults.

Smoking Habits and Neuropeptides: Adiponectin, Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor, and Leptin Levels

This study aimed to identify changes in the level of neuropeptides among current smokers, former smokers, and individuals who had never smoked, and how smoking habits affect obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS).
