The Association of Body Fat and Arterial Stiffness Using the Brachial-Ankle Pulse Wave Velocity

BMI alone may not serve as an index of obesity because it does not reflect body composition. The present study aimed to compare arterial stiffness as assessed by the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV) among groups defined by body fat percentage (pBF) and BMI.

Unchanged Erythrocyte Profile After Exposure to Cryogenic Temperatures in Elder Marathon Runners

Endurance runners may experience “sports anemia” resulting from intravascular hemolysis. In addition, aging has negative impact on hematopoiesis and rheological properties of blood, and erythrocyte membranes in older people are more vulnerable to oxidative damage, which together can lead to anemia. Whole-body cryostimulation (WBCST) is increasingly used in the elderly as a method of biological regeneration of athletes or therapy and preventive treatment. That is why the aim of the study was to determine whether repeated WBCST had an effect on the erythrocyte system in master marathon runners, compared to non-training men.

Acute Anaerobic Exercise Affects the Secretion of Asprosin, Irisin, and Other Cytokines – A Comparison Between Sexes

The new adipokine, which is asprosin, affects glucose release from the liver to the blood, and thus, influences exercise metabolism. This is the first study assessing whether single anaerobic exercise affects asprosin secretion in women and men.

Fat Mass Index and Body Mass Index Affect Peak Metabolic Equivalent Negatively during Exercise Test among Children and Adolescents in Taiwan

The main objective of this study was to examine the relationship between FMI and CRF assessed by peak oxygen uptake (peak O2) during treadmill exercise testing. Since (1) BMI remains a simple and easy measure to use in most settings, and there is a well-established reference value for classifying obesity or not in Taiwan, and (2) there are no available reference values of FIM for Taiwan children and adolescents currently, we assessed the association between BMI and CRF in this study.

A Preliminary Study for Evaluating the Dose-Dependent Effect of d-Allulose for Fat Mass Reduction in Adult Humans: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Most studies indicated that d-allulose induces a decrease in body weight, fat mass, and food or energy intake in experimental animal models. However, there have been only a few studies that have been conducted in human subjects to test the efficacy of d-allulose, and they include some limitations in the form of small sizes of subjects and in the use of placebo material. As such, we conducted a preliminary study with overweight and obese subjects with compensation.

A 4-Week Preoperative Ketogenic Micronutrient-Enriched Diet Is Effective in Reducing Body Weight, Left Hepatic Lobe Volume, and Micronutrient Deficiencies in Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: a Prospective Pilot Study

The objective of this study was to assess the safety and the effectiveness of a 4-week preoperative ketogenic micronutrient-enriched diet (KMED) in reducing body weight (BW), left hepatic lobe volume, and correcting MD in patients scheduled for BS.
